hydro excavation

Clean, precise, non-destructive digging for utility-dense sites

When accuracy and safety are mission-critical, Bunney’s Inc. delivers. Based in Phoenix and serving businesses across Arizona, we provide industrial-grade vacuum excavation (hydrovac and air-vac) that exposes buried assets without damage—keeping projects on schedule and job sites inspection-ready.

What is vacuum excavation?

Vacuum (hydrovac) excavation uses a controlled stream of pressurized water (or compressed air) to loosen soil while a high-powered vacuum lifts material into an onboard debris tank. The result is precise daylighting and trenching with far lower risk of utility strikes than mechanical methods—ideal for congested corridors, plant sites, and sensitive rights-of-way.

Hydrovac vs. air-vac:

  • Hydrovac excels in dense, compacted, or cemented soils and is typically faster.

  • Air-vac keeps spoils dry for same-day backfill where specifications allow and minimizes water use.

Where vacuum excavation makes sense

  • Utility locating & daylighting prior to excavation or tie-ins

  • Potholing/test holes to verify depth, material, and clearances

  • Slot trenching for conduit and small-diameter pipe

  • Work near critical infrastructure (fiber, gas, electric, water)

  • Debris/mud removal in vaults, pits, and sumps

  • Tight-access or urban sites where conventional equipment can’t safely operate

    • Safety first: OSHA-aligned practices, daily JSAs, traffic control plans, and strike-avoidance protocols.

    • Industrial-grade fleet: High-capacity hydrovac & air-vac trucks, long-reach hoses, and filtration for clean sites.

    • Professional operators: Experienced crews focused on commercial, industrial, and municipal scopes (no residential).

    • Schedule discipline: Rapid mobilization, off-hour shifts, and clear progress communication.

    • Transparent pricing: Line-item quotes for mobilization, production, disposal, and any specialty controls.

    Our soft-dig process

    1. Pre-task planning: 811 coordination, utility maps, permit checks, and site-specific safety plan.

    2. Set-up & controls: Barricades, signage, traffic management, and environmental protections.

    3. Expose with water or air: Method selected for soil, asset sensitivity, and reuse requirements.

    4. Vacuum & contain: Slurry/solids captured in debris tanks for compliant transport and disposal.

    5. Verify & document: Measurements, photos, and handoff notes to support inspections and records.

    FAQs

What’s the difference between hydrovac and air-vac?
Hydrovac uses water and is typically faster in compacted soils; air-vac uses compressed air, keeps spoils dry for reuse, and reduces water handling.

How does vacuum excavation reduce utility-damage risk?
The cutting action is a controlled water/air stream, not a blade or bucket. Assets are revealed gradually and visually verified before any follow-on digging.

Do you handle slurry and debris disposal?
Yes. We transport and dispose of materials per local requirements. When specs permit, air-vac spoils can often be reused as backfill.

Can you work in tight or high-traffic areas?
Absolutely. We stage equipment strategically, use long-reach hoses, and implement traffic control to maintain access and safety.

    How is pricing structured?
Typically hourly or day-rate with clear line items for mobilization, production, disposal, and traffic control. We’ll provide a written scope and estimate.

    Do you coordinate 811 locates?
We can assist with coordination and require completed locates prior to excavation. Daylighting then confirms exact location and depth.

Will vacuum excavation slow my schedule?
On utility-dense sites it often accelerates delivery by preventing strikes, minimizing surface restoration, and streamlining inspections.

    Do you perform residential work?
Our focus is commercial, industrial, and municipal projects.
